Noah Galloway On Parenting
Q: Tell us a little bit about your children’s style and clothing choices
A: I encourage all my kids to have their own style and luckily – they all have pretty decent taste. There was never a time when I thought ‘I’m not letting them out of the house in that!’ My two boys, Jack and Colston are very trendy when it comes to dress while Rian, my little princess is very particular and gets easily bent out of shape about her clothing. Nonetheless, she has great style.
Q: Has there ever been a time when you should’ve been mad at something your kids did, but had to try not to laugh?
A: About a year ago, we were living in an apartment and I heard Colston say a curse word. I confronted him and asked what he had just said. He denied it and responded by telling me he said a different word that sounded like the curse word and proceeded to give me a full sentence with it. I couldn’t argue, I had to bite my tongue as the kid outsmarted me!
Noah Galloway On His Personal Style
Q: What is your “go-to” outfit?
A: I am a jeans and button down shirt type of guy! Don’t tell anyone but…I happen to sweat a lot, so I need the shirts to have pattern so you can’t see the sweat marks. I really like the flannel look – so I’m super excited for Fall weather (which is really winter in Alabama) when I can actually wear my plaid shirts.
Q: How has your style changed over the years?
A: I’ve always like the comfortable look and feel of wearing jeans and button down. However, after my injury, I never wanted to wear anything that had long sleeves – so I would wear more tee-shirts. But over the years, I’ve adapted and now I just have all my shirts tailored to accommodate my arms. Come to think of it… I’ve become sort of a diva when it comes to my shirts!
Q: Are there any special accessories that you collect or enjoy?
A: Well, I wear a watch all the time and I have a lot of shoes! All of them are either tennis shoes or boots. As far as boots, I really like the vintage look. I have this one pair that is super comfortable and so I ended up buying them in another color – so now I have a black and a brown pair. I’m not picky about my sneakers – but I do make sure to match my shoes to my shirt when going to the gym.
Noah Galloway on Physical Activity and Tough Mudders
Q: Tell us a little bit about your passion for physical activity
A: My passion for fitness started at a young age. I had all these VHS tapes of Tony Little and I would wake up at the crack of dawn and work out watching him on TV! I was so addicted that I used to sneak into community centers to work out. Fitness eventually help save my life – it was what I turned to in order to help get me out of my depression after my deployment to Iraq. It is for these reasons that physical activity is so important to me and want to make sure that I instill that in my kids. I’m careful not to push anything on them – but I do teach them the importance of being active and encourage them to do so.
Q: You and your kids recently ran a Tough Mudder race – how did you all train for that?
A: Yes, my son Jack and daughter Rian recently ran the “Mini-Mudder” in NY. They didn’t train for a second! Honestly, my feeling is that while physical activity and exercise is extremely important for youth and adults alike, children should not be working out with weights. I encourage my kids to be active and if they want to work out I have them do body weight exercises.
My son Jack actually did amazing in the Mini Mudder and now wants to compete in a full race! Now I’ll have to find a way for him to do it!
Q: Seems you have an obsession with The Golden Girls! Tell us a little bit more about this.
A: I’ve loved watching the show since I was young! I would even watch the show Empty Nest cause there was crossover between that and the Golden Girls and I just loved it. It’s funny and in some way relatable. I mentioned the show one time on my social media and learned that I’m not the only one with an obsession for those 4 quirky ladies. My favorite character is Sophia. I set up my DVR to record every episode and when I’ve got nothing better to do, I sit and watch it on marathon!
Noah Galloway On Veterans Day
Q: Last year you were the Marshal during the Birmingham, AL Veterans Day parade. What’s on tap for this year?
A: Let me start by taking this opportunity to thank all those who have served or are currently serving our country …THANK YOU!
Now, back to the question…Being the Marshal last year was an amazing experience – especially in Birmingham which has the oldest and largest Veteran’s Day parade in the country. Birmingham has actually been celebrating this day 10 years longer than the rest of the country – so it was pretty special to be part of that. This year, I will be having lunch at the White House with President Obama.
